Kunal Kamra's 'Naya Bharat' Video Could Be Taken Down From YouTube After T-Series’ Legal Move
Kunal Kamra, facing backlash for calling Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde a "gaddar," called out T-Series for blocking his video.

Kamara-Shinde Row: Amid backlash for referring to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “gaddar" (traitor), stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Wednesday hit out at music company, T-Series, and accused it of sending a copyright strike on his latest stand-up video, ‘Naya Bharat’ on YouTube.
The 36-year-old stand-up comedian, who has kicked up a major political storm in Maharashtra for taking a jibe at Shinde’s political career in his 45-minute-long show by modifying the lyrics of a popular Hindi movie song, claimed that he hasn’t used the original lyrics or original instruments of the songs in his video.

“Hello @TSeries, stop being a stooge. Parody & Satire comes under fair use Legally. I haven’t used the lyrics or the original instrumental of the song," he said in a post on X.
He further defended his work as legally protected under fair use, emphasising that parody and satire should not be silenced.
Raising concerns about broader implications for content creators, he said that such actions could set a dangerous precedent.
“If you take this video down, every cover song/dance video can be taken down. Creators, please take a note of it," he added.
“Having said that, every monopoly in India is nothing short of Mafia, so please watch/download this special before it’s taken down," he added.
During a recent stand-up comedy show, Kunal Kamra dubbed a parody song of a Hindi film, Dil Toh Pagal Hai and other films—some of which have music rights owned by T-Series, and called Shinde a “traitor" for his 2022 rebellion against the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government.
Weighing on the Maharashtra politics with a musical touch to the song ‘Bholi Si Surat’, Kamra mocked Shinde and sang, “Meri nazar se tum dekho to gaddar nazar wo aaye. Haaye!"
After the clip went viral on social media, Shiv Sena warned of legal action and some of its workers vandalised the venue where the show was recorded. 12 party leaders were arrested but were later released on bail on Monday.
