'This Isn’t Journalism, This Is Bullying': Millie Bobby Brown Slams Media’s Fixation On Her Looks
To illustrate her point, Millie Brown highlighted a handful of headlines that have circulated online.

Millie Bobby Brown has had enough. The actress and entrepreneur took to Instagram today to address the intense scrutiny she has faced while growing up in the public eye. In a candid and powerful video, she called out the relentless media obsession with her appearance, making it clear that she won’t apologise for growing up. “This is a very necessary conversation," Brown stated, highlighting how this issue affects many young women under public scrutiny. She didn’t shy away from criticising the media for its “disturbing" fixation on dissecting her looks, calling out the deeper problem beyond entertainment journalism.
“I started in the industry when I was 10 years old," she shared. “I grew up in front of the world and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow up with me. Instead, they act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on Stranger Things Season 1. And because I don’t, I’m now a target," she added.

To illustrate her point, Millie Bobby Brown highlighted a handful of headlines that have circulated online, from “Why are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown ageing so badly?" to “What has Millie Bobby Brown done to her face?" She also referenced a piece that took a “savage swipe" at her so-called “mommy makeover" look, noting how instead of questioning why a grown man was publicly mocking a young woman’s appearance, the media amplified the insult.
“This isn’t journalism. This is bullying," she asserted. “The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices is disturbing. And the fact that some of these articles are written by women makes it even worse. We always talk about supporting and uplifting young women, but when it comes down to it, it seems a lot easier to just tear them down for clicks. Disillusioned people can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman, on her terms, not their own. I refuse to apologize for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman. I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself," the actress added.

Brown didn’t stop there. She shed light on the troubling reality of today’s social discourse, where negativity seems to be the default reaction.
Having entered the spotlight at just 12 years old, Brown has been vocal about the challenges of growing up in the public eye. The massive success of Netflix’s Stranger Things launched her into stardom but also subjected her to relentless scrutiny, forcing her to navigate fame under an often unforgiving lens.
Back in 2022, she reflected on the stark differences in how the world treated her once she turned 18. “I have definitely been dealing with that more within the last two weeks of turning 18—definitely seeing a difference between the way people act and the way that the press and social media have reacted to me coming of age. I believe that that shouldn’t change anything, but it’s gross and it’s true and … it’s a very good representation of what’s going on in the world and how young girls are sexualised," she revealed.
