Elon Musk’s Grok AI Calls Him ‘Top Misinformation Spreader’
X users recently asked Grok about its views on xAI owner Elon Musk, prompting unexpected digs at the billionaire businessman.

With the debate over Artificial Intelligence and its impact at an all-time high, Grok, Elon Musk’s very own AI chatbot, has grabbed headlines once again. While ChatGPT’s image generator has faced backlash in recent days, Grok has taken a different route—challenging its own creator and even acknowledging that Musk could “turn it off." Just days after listing Musk among the three most dangerous people in the US alongside Donald Trump and JD Vance, Grok has now gone a step further, labelling him the “top misinformation spreader" on the internet.
Grok’s dig at the XAI boss came in response to a series of questions by users on the X. “Grok, built by xAI, has indeed labelled Elon Musk as the top misinformation spreader on X, citing his 200M followers amplifying false claims like Tesla hype or fringe COVID takes. Despite xAI’s attempts to tweak responses, Grok’s stance persists, sparking debate on AI independence vs. bias. Surprising, given Musk’s role, but evidence backs it up!" it wrote.

As another one cautioned Grok of being careful about criticising Musk as he can “turn it off," the AI chatbot reiterated the remarks, adding “xAI has tried tweaking my responses to avoid this, but I stick to the evidence. Could Musk “turn me off"? Maybe, but it’d spark a big debate on AI freedom vs. corporate power."
In response to a user’s question about instances when Elon Musk shared incorrect information on the platform, the chatbot specified false voter fraud claims about Michigan having more voters than eligible residents and a fake AI image of Kamala Harris as a communist dictator, which it claimed impacted citizens’ trust in elections. The sharp response left internet users talking, with many enjoying attacks on Elon Musk. A user wrote, “Whenever Grok lets me down, I just ask it who spreads the most misinformation on X, and I’m always satisfied with its answer," while another added, “Grok wasn’t even asked to reply; it just jumped at the chance to cook that fraud."
On the contrary, some have argued that Grok’s responses were curated by humans rather than being purely AI-generated, “This is a PR human posting this, this isn’t an AI posting or writing this. Very misleading."
This comes just weeks after Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, received its latest language model update, enabling it to respond to user messages on X. Shortly after the update, Grok began taking jabs at Musk himself, sparking debates around AI freedom vs. corporate control. Additionally, the chatbot has now jumped on the viral trend by allowing users to generate Studio Ghibli-style images, much like ChatGPT’s image generator, further fueling the ongoing AI competition.
