'No Payment Needed': Bengaluru Driver’s Kindness Shines After Returning Lost Phone
A man from Bengaluru lost his phone in a taxi, but he was reunited with it after the driver found and charged it.

When it came to returning a lost phone to its owner, a Bengaluru taxi driver went above and beyond. In a Reddit post titled “Lost phone returned by an honest cab driver," the user described how he unintentionally left his phone in an offline taxi that he took from Hebbal, Bengaluru. The incident happened at approximately 11 pm when the man was having trouble locating a taxi using an app. As the battery on his phone was dying, he saw a car parked and asked the driver if he could drop him off. The driver accepted but even declined to take payment for the short ride.
“I wanted to pay him, but he refused to accept any payment, maybe due to the short distance. After I got out of the cab, I realized my phone was missing from my pocket. It had probably slipped out onto the seat. I panicked and searched my backpack, hoping I’d put it there, but couldn’t find it. By then, the cab had already driven away. Since I’d taken the cab offline, without an app, I didn’t even have the vehicle’s registration number," the Reddit post reads.

When he got home, he tried calling his phone, but it was already off. “I also tried using the Samsung tracking service, but that’s ineffective when the phone is off. I even filed a lost item report, but I didn’t have much hope. I waited for over 15 hours, hoping the driver would find my phone, charge it, and turn it on. My friends told me I had no chance of getting it back," the post on Reddit further reads. “I had lost my phone for the first time in my life and felt very bad," the man claims.

He did receive an unexpected email from Samsung after 15 hours informing him that his device had been found. “The driver had found it, charged it, and turned it on. I managed to enable lost mode, which displays the owner’s contact details on the screen. I called my phone, and the driver answered, and said he’d gone to Mysore for a trip and would return my phone the following day," the user explains further.
The driver kept his word and took a bus to the passenger area to personally hand over the phone. “This morning, the driver came to my location by bus and returned my phone. I gave him 1000 rupees as a reward for his honesty, and although he was reluctant to accept, I insisted," the lengthy post concludes.
