US Man Expresses Shock After Son With IQ Above 145 Gets Rejected From Top Universities
A man in the United States expressed disbelief after his son, a bright student with an IQ of over 145, was turned down by numerous prestigious universities in the nation.

An American dad was shocked to learn that his son, a bright student with an IQ of over 145, had been turned down by several of the country’s best universities. Only the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the state’s premier public university, accepted him. The worried parent, who posted on Reddit to show his surprise at the extremely hard admissions process, claimed that his son had placed first out of 475 students in his high school but was unable to get a spot at any Ivy League university. He cited his son’s stellar academic record, which included 5 on 18 Advanced Placement (AP) tests, 11 dual-enrollment courses with all As, and a SAT score of 1580.
“He is the Valedictorian of 476 students, scored 5 on 18 AP exams, and scored 1580 on his SAT," in his Reddit post, the man asserted that his son was exceptionally talented in both extracurricular and academic pursuits. “He created an online gaming website targeted to elementary and middle school students with 180,000 users per month, earning $3,100 last year through ad revenue," he also claimed.

The Reddit user asserted that his son is a Davidson Young Scholar, a group for students who score at least 145 on the IQ scale. After completing his college coursework in computer science, he hopes to work in the tech industry.
Furthermore, the student in high school had already begun to work on his resume. He was elected as the school’s Vice President of the Math team and President of the Computer Science club, and he was offered a paid internship at a nearby computer company. “He conducted research for 3 summers under a Professor at Boston University and was the first author of two papers," the parent added in his lengthy post.
“I would like to stress that this was nearly all self-motivated. He’s not one of those “robot" kids who does what their parents tell them to – he wants to do Computer Science and work in tech, which I don’t know the first thing about," he added.

The Massachusetts man stated further in the post that he was “just shocked" by the increased competition in US college applications. Despite his son’s stellar resume, he was turned down by Columbia Early Decision, Harvard, Yale, MIT, Dartmouth, and several campuses of the University of California, including Berkeley and UCLA. Duke University’s decision is still pending, according to the family.
There has been a heated discussion regarding the post on Reddit, with some people questioning its veracity. Some concurred that college admissions have grown “insanely competitive," particularly for computer science courses. Others remarked that admission to UMass Amherst is equally difficult.
