Mumbai: Metro Line 2B Trail Runs On Mandale-Diamond Garden Stretch To Begin This Week
The Mandale depot is crucial for Line 2B. It is being constructed on a 31.4-hectare government-owned plot in Mandale, Mankhurd.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is all set to energise a 5.6-km stretch of Metro Line 2B—from Mandale to Diamond Garden—starting 8th April, as per Times Now.
This means the overhead electric wires (called Overhead Equipment or OHE) that power the metro trains will start receiving electricity.

This energisation marks the beginning of the opening process for the full 23.6-km elevated Metro Line 2B, which is being launched in phases.
The MMRDA has already powered the test track at the Mandale depot and rolled out the first train.
An MMRDA official told the Times of India, “This is a major step towards starting trial runs and getting ready for full passenger operations. We aim to start services between Mandale and Diamond Garden before the year ends."
What is Metro Line 2B?
Metro Line 2B will connect D N Nagar (West Mumbai) to Mandale (East Mumbai). It will pass through important areas like Bandra, Kurla, and Chembur, making travel smoother for lakhs of people.
- It is a part of the wider Metro Line 2 corridor, which also includes Line 2A.
- Once fully opened, it is expected to carry at least 10 lakh passengers daily, reducing road traffic and pollution.
- The line will run on a 25kV AC overhead electric system, just like other Mumbai Metro lines.
The Mandale depot is a key part of Line 2B’s infrastructure. Built on a 31.4-hectare government-owned plot in Mankhurd, it features a double-decker design to maximise space and can accommodate up to 72 metro trains.
