Now You Can Allow Others To Spend From Your UPI Account, Here's How
The new UPI Circle feature allows sharing a UPI account with up to five people. The new feature was introduced by NPCI in 2024 via the BHIM app

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has emerged as the most popular method of digital payment in India, becoming an integral part of everyday life for the common people. Opting for UPI payments over carrying cash is highly preferred due to its simplicity and widespread availability.
A new development in UPI services is the ability to share an UPI account not just with family or a girlfriend, but also broadly with others, including those not directly linked to one’s bank account. This feature, known as UPI Circle, allows the primary UPI account holder to permit other individuals to make payments from their account.

The primary user, who holds both a bank account and a UPI account, can establish a UPI Circle. Individuals added to this circle are then able to make UPI payments. Currently, up to five people can make payments from the same UPI account simultaneously.
This feature, introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in 2024, is presently available via the BHIM app and is expected to be rolled out across other UPI apps gradually.
To authorise someone else to make payments from one’s UPI account, they need to add them as a secondary user. This can be done by entering the UPI ID of the secondary user or by scanning a QR code if the UPI ID is unknown. The primary user has two options for delegating payment rights: full payment delegation or partial payment delegation.
With full payment delegation, the secondary user can make payments up to a certain limit without needing a PIN. Under partial payment delegation, the primary user’s approval is required for each transaction.
