There’s just something special about Chepauk. It’s not just the Anbu-den faithful who believe in the same, yet also RCB skipper Rajat Patidar who attested to it, after his team’s dominant 50-run win over CSK on Friday.

A scintillating all-round performance from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru powered them to a commanding 50-run win over the Chennai Super Kings, breaking an unfortunate 17-year streak at Chepauk.

Rajat Patidar put up a captain’s knock with a fifty of his own, as quickfire contributions from the top order and a last-over onslaught from Tim David powered RCB to 196 runs.

Then, it was RCB’s pacers who shone through, as Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal both rattled the CSK batting order, constricting them to just 146 by the end, a total the Chennai side reached after RCB let go of the vice-grip they had almost out of pity.

“It’s always special playing at Chepauk against Chennai because of the fans. Not only CSK but every team, as it is nice to play in their home ground," Patidar exclaimed after picking up the Player of the Match award.

Patidar surely had Lady Luck on his side as well, as the RCB skipper survived three dropped catches en route to his fifty: opportunities that he utilized to pile the misery on CSK.

The 51-run knock also helped him become only the second RCB skipper after Virat Kohli to score a half-century against CSK in an IPL match played at Chepauk.

“We were targeting around 200 because we knew it would not be easy to chase. So, my goal was clear: as long as I was there I will keep trying every ball."

With his win today, Patidar entered his name in the history books, becoming only the second RCB skipper to win an IPL match against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk in Chennai.

Before Friday’s win, the last time RCB won an IPL match in Chennai against CSK was way back on May 21, 2008.

Today’s win also skyrocketed RCB up to the top of the IPL 2025 standings currently, having clinched wins in both of their matches so far in the tournament.
