Ashwani Kumar entered his name in the history books on Monday (March 31) by becoming the first Indian bowler to take four wickets on IPL debut. The 23-year-old cricketer from Mohali achieved the feat during the IPL 2025 match currently underway between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

The record of best bowling figures on IPL debut is in the name of West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph. Alzarri made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 6, 2019, and finished the match with figures of 6/12 in 3.4 overs. He is followed by Andrew Tye, who, on his IPL debut for Gujarat Titans, picked up five wickets for 17 runs against Rising Pune Super Giants.
KKR all out for 116
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya invited KKR to bat first on Monday, but the three-time IPL champions could only manage to score 116 runs in 16.2 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi top-scored for the Ajinkya Rahane-led side. He made 26 runs from 16 balls, whereas former MI batter Ramandeep Singh hammered 22 runs from 12 balls as a No. 9 batter.
For MI, apart from Ashwani, Deepak Chahar picked up two wickets for 19 runs in two overs, and one KKR batter each was sent back to the pavilion by Trent Boult, Vignesh Puthur, Hardik Pandya and Mitchell Santner.
