A scintillating all-round performance from the Royal Challengers Bengaluru powered them to a commanding 50-run win over the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 on Friday (March 28), breaking an unfortunate 17-year streak at Chepauk.

RCB skipper Rajat Patidar led the scoring for his side with a fine fifty, while fiery spells from pacers Josh Hazlewood, and Yash Dayal dismantled the CSK batters, leaving the Chepaul faithful stunned.

With their win today, RCB registered their first win in 17 years against the Chennai side at Chepauk, breaking a curse that had existed since the inaugural 2008 season of the IPL.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first, throwing the gauntlet down on Royal Challengers Bengaluru to set the target.

Patidar put up a captain’s knock with a fifty of his own, as quickfire contributions from the top order and a last-over onslaught from Tim David powered RCB to 196 runs —the third-highest total they have posted at Chepauk.

Noor Ahmad would be the saving grace for CSK, as the Afghan would reap three wickets with his spell — removing dangermen Salt, Kohli, and Livingstone — registering yet another fine outing with figures of 3/36.

Needing a strong start, the onus was on CSK to get going and settle in through the powerplay.

But, disaster would strike, in the form of Josh Hazlewood, who would dismiss both Rahul Tripathi and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad in his first over, pushing CSK to 8/2.

The onslaught from RCB’s pacers would only continue as veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar would have his pick next, pushing CSK to 30/3 by the end of the powerplay.

The weight of expectation all fell onto the shoulders of Rachin Ravindra to help CSK navigate their way through the disastrous start.

The NZ batter would fight hard, with a solid 41 off 31 balls, to keep the home team in the game.

Yet there would be no stopping the bleeding for the Chennai side, as  Yash Dayal would scalp two wickets of his own in one over, while Livingstone added to his tally as well, pushing CSK to an abysmal 99/7.

All that CSK fans could salvage from a forgettable night was the sight of MS Dhoni whacking back-to-back sixes, as he batted through the end of an otherwise disappointing showcase from CSK, who fell short by 50 runs.
