Jasprit Bumrah To Virat Kohli: 6 Indians To Win ICC Test Cricketer Of The Year Award

Jasprit Bumrah won the 2024 ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award on Monday. The 31-year-old is the sixth Indian player to win the top prize.

Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who sits at the No. 1 position in the ICC Test bowler’s ranking, won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year 2024 award on Monday, January 27. The 31-year-old pacer played 13 matches for India in 2024 and accounted for the dismissal of 71 batters. He finished as the leading wicket-taker in the five-day format of the game last year and also led India to a 295-run win over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy played at Optus Stadium in Perth.

Bumrah is the sixth Indian player to win the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award.

    Rahul Dravid (2004)

    Former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid was the first-ever recipient of the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award. He won the top prize in 2004 for scoring 803 runs in five matches for India. In 2004, Dravid’s batting average in Tests was 100.37, and he scored two centuries and three fifties in 10 innings. His best score in 2004 was 233 against Australia at Adelaide Oval.

    Gautam Gambhir (2009)

    Current India head coach Gautam Gambhir won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award in 2009. Gambhir played five red-ball matches for India in 2009, and with the help of four centuries and one fifty, he scored 727 runs. Gambhir’s batting average that year was 90.87, and he also became world No. 1 Test batter.

    Virender Sehwag (2010)

    For scoring 1422 runs in 14 matches, former opening batter Virender Sehwag won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award in 2010. Sehwag was in red-hot form for the MS Dhoni-led side in 2010 and scored five centuries and eight fifties. In addition to his batting, Sehwag also picked up nine wickets in 2010.

    Ravichandran Ashwin (2016)

    R. Ashwin is India’s second-leading wicket-taker in Test cricket. The 38-year-old spinner, who announced his retirement from international cricket on December 18, 2024, won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award in 2016. Ashwin played 12 matches for India that year and accounted for the dismissal of 72 batters. In addition to that, he also scored 612 runs with the bat. The year 2016 was best in terms of both batting and bowling for Ashwin.

    Virat Kohli (2018)

    Legendary batter Virat Kohli won the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award in 2018. The 36-year-old right-handed batter, who has more than 9000 runs to his name in the five-day format of the game, played 13 Tests in 2018 and scored 1322 runs. Kohli’s batting average in Tests that year was 55.08, and he smashed five centuries in addition to five fifties.
