Manoj Tiwary On Why He Called Gautam Gambhir A 'Hypocrite': 'Because Of One Of His Interviews...'
Manoj Tiwary says Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite for preaching the need for Indian coaches and then selecting Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate.

Manoj Tiwary has said that he called Gautam Gambhir a ‘hypocrite’ because the men’s head coach selected Morne Morkel and Ryan ten Doeschate in his staff despite preaching the need for Indian coaches for years. Tiwary said Gambhir’s ‘actions don’t match his words’ and he has been unable to produce results despite getting what he wanted.
Gambhir took over from Rahul Dravid earlier this year. Abhishek Nayar and Morkel joined him as assistant coaches while ten Doeschate as the fielding coach. Nayar and the Netherlands’ ten Doeschate worked with Gambhir when Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won IPL 2024 while Morkel, who played for South Africa, worked with him at Lucknow Super Giants.

“Why did I call him a hypocrite (in an interview with News18 Bangla on Thursday)? It is because of one of his interviews if you remember," Tiwary told Hindustan Times on Friday. “In one of the interviews, he said, ‘All these foreign coaches, all the guys who come from abroad, have no emotions, they have no feelings. They earn money and enjoy themselves.’ When the time was there for him to select all the Indian coaches and all the Indian-origin support staff, why did he put forward the names of Ryan ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel? He got everything he wanted but he is not able to produce the results. Actions don’t match his words, so I called him a hypocrite," said Tiwary.
In ten Tests under them since, India have won just three, getting whitewashed 0-3 to New Zealand at home and then losing 3-1 to Australia. India also lost 2-1 in an ODI series against Sri Lanka.
In the earlier interview on Thursday, Tiwary said that choosing Gambhir for the India role because he had won IPL 2024 as KKR’s mentor was wrong. Now, he said the former India captain needs time in the coaching role and wondered how long would he be ‘persisted with’.
“It will take time for him because only if he learns from his mistakes and improves himself from the next series, then only positive results will come. We have to eventually see how long he is persisted with as the coach," Tiwary added.
