CSK had won the toss and the skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad opted to bowl first. The hosts found themselves in front thanks to the twin blows dealt by Khaleel Ahmed and Ravichandran Ashwin’s lone wicket coming in the first six overs.

The franchise will look to find themselves back in contention for a title and hope that MS Dhoni can bring a fitting end to his career. But it remains to be seen if the legend will call time on his career anytime soon. With the introduction of the impact substitute, Dhoni has taken a reduced role with the bat, opting to play the last few deliveries and maximising his output with big runs in the final stretch.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s side will have a point to prove in 2025 considering they narrowly missed out on a spot in the playoff stages. They came close but a defeat to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their final league-stage fixture saw the side missing out on a shot at the title.
