Mumbai Indians batter Ryan Rickelton on Monday made a huge statement on Suryakumar Yadav, saying that the latter is a joke and he does ‘stuff that I cannot dream of, ‘ after he smacked a 9-ball 27 to take Mumbai over the line in a simple 117-run chase against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rickelton recalled being awed by a scoop shot over fine leg by Suryakumar off a ball that was well outside the off stump and left the bowler Andre Russell stunned.
“I just said to Quinny when he walked past that he (Suryakumar) is a joke. Stuff that I can only dream of. He has played that shot a million times – it is a unique shot and not going to try it anytime soon, but glad he is on our team," Rickelton said while speaking after the match.
Suryakumar proceeded to close out the small run chase with a six off Russell in the 13th over.
Rickelton has been entrusted with the roles of an opener as well as a wicketkeeper and he had an average start to his Indian Premier League career.
On Monday, Rickelton made most of a small run chase to build his and the team’s innings and held one end.
“Took my time, couldn’t lay bat on ball to be honest, had to wait for my opportunity. The ball was nibbling around. Chatting to the guys in South Africa, it did a bit and looking forward to maximising on the pace which was offered today," Rickelton said at the post-match presentation.
Mumbai won the match by eight wickets to open their account in IPL 2025 after beginning with two consecutive losses.
Ashwani Kumar’s record four-fer on his Indian Premier League debut and Rickelton’s unbeaten 62 powered Mumbai to a commanding victory over Kolkata.
The 23-year-old Ashwani from Punjab’s Jhanjeri became the first Indian ever to take four wickets on Indian Premier League debut as he ended with figures of 3-0-24-4 to blow away Kolkata’s star-studded batting lineup.
