'Seen Lot Of Great Catches But This Was...': Kamindu Mendis' Stunning Effort Floors SRH Teammates
Kamindu Mendis pulled off an exceptional catch during CSK vs SRH In Chennai and it's being called as one of the catches of the tournament.

Sunrisers Hyderabad ended their Chepauk jinx recently, recording a first ever win over Chennai Super Kings at the venue and the result has injected life into their faltering IPL 2025 campaign. One of the reasons why SRH managed to secure the win was thanks to an exceptional fielding effort from their Sri Lankan import Kamindu Mendis whose stunning catch has been termed as the ‘catch of the season’ so far.
With CSK’s Dewald Brevis going berserk in front of his new home fans after joining the franchise midway through the season as a replacement player, SRH were gearing up to chase a daunting total. Having racked up 42 off 24, the South African was in the midst of a memorable debut.

Then Harshal Patel, the bowler, gifted him a half-volley and Brevis responded in kind, launching it towards long-off with the ball destined for the boundary.
Enter Mendis who launched himself into the air and midway through his flight, pulled off a blinder to bring an end to a special innings with an exceptional catch.
Patel’s reaction summed up the mood. Hands covering his mouth in absolute astonishment.
“Magnificent," said Ishan Kishan. Travis Head felt “describing the catch won’t do it justice".
“When I’m running, I thought I wouldn’t even reach it but somehow I tried, and you have to have some belief in you. So, I went for it," Mendis explained what was going through his mind while speaking to iplt20.com.
“Brevis was batting really well in these tough conditions, so we needed a breakthrough. I just believed that I could go for the catch and take it. I think it gave us good energy in the field as well," he added.
Mendis said he’s always switched on when fielding in the deep.
“Whenever I am at midwicket and long on, I’m anticipating (a wicket) every ball. You just need to anticipate (a wicket) every ball in T20 cricket. So, you have to take 50-50, half chances. You have to have courage to go for the catch. These small things can be a good contribution for the game," he said.
Harshal had no expectations having dropped a half-volley to a batter of Brevis’ caliber.
“I had zero expectations from that ball and was hoping it wouldn’t go for a six. And that ended up being a wicket which was spectacular. I’ve seen a lot of great catches on the field, but this was probably one of my top three," he said.
