Shardul Thakur continues to hit the headlines ever since being roped in by the Lucknow Super Giants as a replacement player for the injured left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan in the ongoing IPL 2025. Thakur went unsold at the two-day IPL mega auction last year but ended up landing a deal with LSG just a few days before the 18th season rolled in.

Thakur, on Tuesday, equalled the record for the longest over bowled in IPL history.

Playing against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Thakur ended up sending down 11 deliveries in the 13th over and thus drew level with Tushar Deshpande and Mohammed Siraj.

Deshpande bowled 11-ball over against LSG while Siraj did so against Mumbai Indians – both during IPL 2023.

Thakur also became the holder of another unwanted record. He became the first bowler to have bowled five wides in a row which is the most by any in IPL history.

The likes of Jasprit Bumrah (2015), Praveen Kumar (2017), Mohammed Siraj (2023) and Khaleel Ahmed (2024) have bowled four wides in a row.

However, Thakur redeemed himself in 11-ball over as he got the wicket of KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane who had gotten himself a quick half-century and put his team in a strong position in the chase of 239 at home.

Rahane made 61 off 35 and KKR were 162/2 before his dismissal. The wicket sparked a collapse as the defending champions slipped to 185/7 before falling short of the target by five runs.

Thakur provided another vital breakthrough for his franchise when he accounted for dangerman Andre Russell (7) in the 17th over and finished with bowling figures of 2/52 form four overs. He has now 9 wickets from five matches in IPL 2025 so far.

Despite Rinku Singh’s late blitz – 38* off 15 – KKR finished at 234/7 in chase of 239 to lose their third match of the season – two of them when playing at home.
