Hyderabad players and support staff might travel back to India next week. SRH next play the Gujarat Titans on May 2 in Ahmedabad, and they might travel to that venue directly from the Maldives two to three days before.
Hyderabad ended their winless streak against the Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk when they beat the hosts by five wickets in Chennai on Friday, scoring 155/5 in the penultimate over after Chennai were bowled out for a paltry 154.
Pacer Harshal Patel made the best use of a sluggish Chepauk pitch as the Sunrisers Hyderabad put the Chennai Super Kings on the brink of the exit door by winning the battle of back-benchers by five wickets.
Harshal, a fine exponent of the slower ball and the knuckle delivery, took 4/28 as the Chennai Super Kings endured another poor outing with the bat and were bowled out for a paltry 154 in 19.5 overs.
Despite getting assistance from the dew-laden pitch, Hyderabad made a heavy weather of the chase before knocking off the target in the penultimate over.
Ishan Kishan (44 off 34 balls), after his brain fade against the Mumbai Indians, played a responsible hand at the top before Kamindu Mendis (32 not out off 22 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19 not out off 13 balls) got the visitors two points with a 49-run partnership.
With six points from nine matches, Hyderabad’s playoff qualification hangs by a thread as they need to win all their five games and that too by a fair margin to end on 16 points.
