'Virat Kohli Has Changed A Lot, That's How...' Travis Head On Indian Star's Success Mantra
Travis Head praises Virat Kohli's fitness and attitude, discusses Fab-Four's longevity, and shares insights on Steven Smith's problem-solving skills.

Australia’s superstar opener Travis Head believes Virat Kohli’s changes in his personal life, particularly his fitness and overall attitude, are the main reason behind his success. He feels that Kohli and the other three members of the Fab-Four — Australian Steven Smith, England’s Joe Root and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson — have found their own method for maintaining longevity, which is a key skill they have in common.
Head and Kohli have gone against each other many a time in recent years, including in the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2021-23 World Test Championship. Head and Australia came on top on both occasions but that hasn’t stopped him from looking at things to adopt from the best in the world.

“Yeah, longevity," Head said on what he’d take from the Fab-Four, in an exclusive chat with News18 CricketNext. “And then I think all of them have gone about it in different ways. I think Virat has changed a lot in his personal life—obviously his fitness and the way he’s gone about things, his intensity, the way he brings—and that’s how he’s got [success],"
For Smith, Head said that the former Aussie captain is ‘one of the great’ problem-solvers in the sport.
“I guess I share a room with Steven, who is one of the great problem solvers that I’ve ever seen—the way he bats and is able to solve problems and do it on the go—and his work ethic around the way he plays and what he needs."
Head is currently playing in IPL 2025 for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 2016 Champions have got off to a difficult start, winning only the first of their four matches to sit at 10th in the points table. On Sunday, they’ll play their fifth match against Gujarat Titans with the aim to get back some momentum for the second half of the league.
Meanwhile, Kohli is with his long-term franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who won their first two matches before losing to the Titans in their third. They’ll now face Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians on Monday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
