The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly passed a unanimous resolution earlier last week urging the Union Government to provide its assent to the Bill for exempting Tamil Nadu from NEET and also to amend the National Medical Commission Act to give up this selection process at the national level, CM said, reported PTI. “The DMK has consistently been opposing NEET since it was made mandatory in 2017 and had even launched a massive signature campaign aiming to abolish the test,” he added.

Bihar Police’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU) which was investigating the case earlier found burnt question papers of NEET-UG during a raid at a hideout of the solver gang, officials said. The EOU had claimed the “leaked” NEET-UG question paper was allegedly obtained from the Oasis School in Hazaribagh by the notorious Sanjeev Kumar alias Lutan Mukhiya gang. It had said the investigators had matched a partially burnt question paper found from the Patna safe house with the reference question paper provided by the NTA, confirming the leak’s origin, reported PTI. However, it could not clearly establish who was behind the alleged paper leak, officials told the news agency.

The Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has written to PM Narendra Modi, demanding a discussion on the NEET issue in Parliament. According to LiveLaw, on July 8, NEET-UG cases are scheduled to be heard by a Supreme Court panel that includes Justices JB Pardiwala, Manoj Misra, and CJI DY Chandrachud.

On Tuesday, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of Kerala’s ruling CPI(M), organised a march to the office of the Accountant General (AG) in protest against irregularities in the NEET entrance exam, as reported by PTI.  Protesters held signs stating ‘NEET is not very neat’ and ‘stop playing with students’ lives.’ Protesters asked for a probe into the discrepancies and demanded that the Union Education Minister put in his resignation.

The revised test date for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Postgraduate Courses (NEET PG) 2024 will be announced later this week. The indefinite sit-in protest by students at Jantar Mantar, aimed at highlighting irregularities in NTA-conducted exams such as NEET UG, PG, and UGC NET, concluded on Monday. The protest, organized under the banner “India against NTA,” began last Wednesday in response to alleged exam rigging reports.

The NEET PG test was postponed by the government due to mounting concerns over suspected anomalies in the NEET-UG and other exams. As a precautionary step, the Health Ministry postponed the NEET PG examination one day before its planned date. With the test postponed, the NBE is anticipated to issue fresh admit cards with the new exam date. More information will be provided in the announcement, which will be published on natboard.edu.in.

On June 27, the Supreme Court voiced doubts over a writ petition filed by a coaching institute alleging anomalies in the NEET-UG exam, according to IANS. “What fundamental rights of yours are violated to enable you to maintain a writ petition filed under Article 32 of the Constitution?” questioned a vacation bench headed over by Justice Manoj Misra to the senior counsel representing Xylem Learning, a coaching institution that assists NEET students.

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, has again urged the Centre to abolish the NEET medical entrance exam nationwide and exempt the state from its requirements. In this context, our Legislative Assembly unanimously approved a bill exempting Tamil Nadu from NEET and allowing medical admissions based on 12th standard grades. Stalin stated in the letter that “This has been sent for Presidential assent but the assent is still pending.”

The CBI on Friday arrested the principal and vice principal of a school in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case, officials said.

Who were arrested?

— Ehsanul Haque, the principal of Oasis School, who was the city coordinator of Hazaribagh for NEET UG

— Vice Principal Imtiaz Alam who was designated as the NTA’s observer and the centre coordinator at the Oasis School

The CBI is also questioning five more people from the district in connection with the paper leak case, officials told PTI.

A high-level expert group chaired by former ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan has been established by the Ministry of Education to guarantee the fair, transparent, and seamless administration of exams administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA). According to the Ministry’s Department of Higher Education, the seven-member group will offer recommendations for changes to the NTA’s organisation and operations, data security standards, and examination process mechanism.

While NEET petitions will be heard on July 8, the Supreme Court has declined to postpone NEET UG counselling, which is set to commence on July 6.

The Supreme Court questioned the National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday if there is a time limit for filing concerns against the OMR sheets issued to NEET-UG 2024 applicants, as reported by PTI.

The Lok Sabha session resumed on July 2 after being postponed on June 28 due to the Opposition’s requests for a debate on the alleged NEET UG 2024 paper leak.

The toppers’ count dropped from 67 to 61, as none of the 813 applicants were able to achieve 720/720. On June 23, five of the six applicants with a perfect score of 720/720 took the retest. However, they consistently achieved high scores of up to 680 as per reports.
