Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Few embody this better than Dr R Rangamanju, a doctor from Charitraarth in Bengaluru, who has emerged as the topper from Karnataka and secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 24 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024. Remarkably, he achieved this feat on his sixth attempt, without any formal coaching.

Dr Rangamanju completed his schooling at National Public School, Rajajinagar, before earning his MBBS degree from Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). Although trained as a doctor, his true calling lay in public service, inspired by the life and legacy of his late father, former IPS officer R Ramesh.

    The untimely demise of his father while in service left a lasting impression on Rangamanju, instilling in him a desire to serve society through administrative service. Throughout this arduous journey, his mother stood by him as a pillar of strength, offering emotional and mental support that proved crucial to his success.

    Without the guidance of any coaching institute, Dr Rangamanju adopted an unconventional preparation strategy. He selected Anthropology as his optional subject and relied on group discussions, peer study sessions, and technology-enabled learning tools, including AI-based platforms, to structure and enhance his self-study.

    Building Confidence Through Test Series And Interviews

    While his preparation for the prelims and mains was entirely self-directed, Rangamanju opted for professional guidance during the personality test stage. He credits the interview preparation and feedback from a private academy as instrumental in refining his responses and boosting his confidence, ultimately contributing to his outstanding result.
