Salary and Perks of President

The President of India, the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, is elected by the members of the electoral college, comprising representatives from both houses of Parliament and state assemblies. He lives in the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the largest presidential residence globally, and has the highest-paid government position.
Salary: Rs 5 lakh per month (as per the President’s Emoluments and Pension Act of 1951).
Perks and Allowances: Exempt from taxes, the President enjoys various allowances, including free travel by train and plane worldwide, free housing, medical care, and Rs 1 lakh annually for office expenses.
Post-Retirement Benefits: The President receives a pension of Rs 1.5 lakh per month, a furnished rent-free bungalow, two free landlines, a mobile phone, five personal staff members, and free travel by train or air for the President and a companion.
Vice-President
The Vice-President is the second highest constitutional position in the country. He primarily presides over the Rajya Sabha and acts as the caretaker President in their absence. The salary and allowances of the Vice President of India are determined under the Salaries and Allowances of Officers of Parliament Act, 1953. There is no provision for a specific salary for the Vice President; instead, they receive remuneration and benefits commensurate with their role as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Parliament).
Salary: Rs 4 lakh per month.
Perks and Allowances: Free accommodation, medical care, train and air travel, a landline connection, mobile phone service, personal security, and staff.
Post-Retirement Benefits: A pension of Rs 1.5 lakh per month and, if acting as President, access to all presidential facilities and benefits.
Prime Minister
He is the head of government of India, and holds significant executive authority and responsibility. He is appointed by the President of India, and has to be a member of one of the houses of bicameral Parliament.
Salary: Rs 1.66 lakh per month, including a basic pay of Rs 50,000, an expense allowance of Rs 3,000, a parliamentary allowance of Rs 45,000, and a daily allowance of Rs 2,000.
Perks and Allowances: An official residence, Special Protection Group (SPG) security, access to government vehicles and aircraft, and government-paid travel, stay, and food expenses for international trips.
Post-Retirement Benefits: Free accommodation, electricity, water, and SPG security for five years.
Member of Parliament (MP)
An MP represents their constituency in Lok Sabha. The members of Lok Sabha are directly elected by the people through general elections held every five years. Their salary and allowances are to compensate for their role in governance.
Salary: Rs 1 lakh per month, with increases every five years in the form of daily allowances.
Perks and Allowances: A basic pay of Rs 50,000 per month, a daily allowance of Rs 2,000 for attending Parliament sessions, committee meetings and a traveling allowance of Rs 16 per km for road travel. MPs also receive a constituency allowance of Rs 45,000 per month and an office expense allowance of Rs 45,000 per month, including Rs 15,000 for stationery and postage.
Additional Benefits: Free medical care for themselves and their families, travel reimbursements for official duties, and rent-free housing for the duration of their term. MPs are entitled to 34 free domestic air journeys per year for themselves and their immediate families. They also receive free first-class train travel for official and personal purposes. MPs are given rent-free accommodations in prime areas during their 5-year term. Those who choose not to live in official accommodation can claim a housing allowance of Rs 2,00,000 per month. MPs are allotted up to 1,50,000 free telephone calls annually.
Post-Retirement Benefits: Former MPs receive a pension of Rs 25,000 per month after serving one term in Parliament. For every extra year of service, they get an increment of Rs 2,000 per month.
