La Liga president Javier Tebas clapped back following Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti’s complaints over having to play two games with a break of less that 72-hours between them as the Capital city giants are slated to take on Leganes in the Spanish top flight on the 29th of March, before playing Real Sociedad on the 1st of April in the Copa Del Rey semi-final.

Tebas stated that the first game in question was originally slated for an earlier date but was postponed on the request of Real Madrid director Emilio Butragueno to give players returning from international duty more time to recover.

“Carlo, I’m sure Emilio told you that LaLiga had scheduled the next matchday of Leganés for Saturday at 4:15 PM to give you more time before the semi-final against Real Sociedad. But Emilio asked LaLiga’s competition director to change it to 9:00 PM—surely with your knowledge and authorization, I imagine—to benefit those coming from the FIFA round. And now we have less than 72 hours between the final whistle of Saturday’s match and the start of Tuesday’s semi-final! May the best qualify for the final!! Greetings," read the post by Tebas on X.

Real Madrid, who are involved in the title scrap with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, climbed to the top spot temporarily following their 2-1 win at Villareal on Saturday thanks to a Kylian Mbappe brace. However, Barcelona, who are three points behind Los Blancos, have two games in hand.

Ancelotti, who oversaw Real Madrid’s penalty shootout win over local rivals Atletico in the Ro16 of the UEFA Champions League, brought up the tight timeline his side face moving forward in the season.

"This team has something special, character and commitment. This isn’t always the case and I get angry with them. We have to thank these players for their monumental effort since January 3rd. Today is the last time we are going to play a game without 72 hours’ rest. We twice asked LaLiga to change it and nothing happened," Ancelotti said.
