It's time for another blockbuster battle of the giants in the UCL playoffs, as Manchester City will face off against Real Madrid for a spot in the Round of 16.

The new and revamped format of the UEFA Champions League has proven to provide moments of shock, wonder, and entertainment so far.

From 36 teams to now the final 24, fans have witnessed 12 sides getting eliminated from the coveted tournament with the final round of games coming to an end on Wednesday.

From Manchester City mustering a come-from-behind win in their final matrchday to stay alive in the tournament, to the likes of Lille, PSV, Celtic, Brest and many more unexpedted entrants surprising many with their enthralling wins, the new format comes to life yet again, with the draw for the playoff rounds now having been announced.

The new format gave the top eight teams in the group stage a bye to the round of 16. In order of finish, those teams are the following:

Liverpool
Barcelona
Arsenal
Inter Milan
Atlético Madrid
Bayer Leverkusen
Lille
Aston Villa

16 more teams move on to a new playoff phase, seeded acordingly based on their finish in the table.

Teams that finished between 9th to 16th will be seeded, and each of these seeded teams shall face a team placed 17th to 24th.

Eventually, after the playoffs — a two-game encounter– come to an end, the winners will move onto the round of 16th, where they will take on opponents from the top eight of the league stage respectively.
