Delhi on Alert Over Farmers' Protest, Section 144 Imposed in Capital Till March 12
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have announced that more than 200 farm unions will march to Delhi on February 13
Massive security has been set up across the Punjab-Haryana borders ahead of the farmers’ “Delhi Chalo" march, scheduled to take place on February 13. As a precautionary measure, Section 144 has been imposed in the entire capital till March 12 ahead of the farmers’ protest.
Meanwhile, the authorities have been putting up jersey barricades and prohibitory orders in Haryana and Delhi border areas in view of the farmers’ planned protest.

The Haryana and Delhi Police on Sunday placed concrete barricades at the Tikri border in Jhajjar’s Bahadurgarh and Singhu in Sonepat to prevent the farmers from entering the national capital. Water cannons along with large cemented containers were also placed by Delhi Police on the Sonepat border.
In addition to the concrete barricades, road spikes, barbed wires and thousands of police personnel have been deployed along the interstate border.
In addition to this, the Haryana government converted two large stadiums into makeshift jails ahead of the march on Tuesday in which thousands of farmers are expected to participate. Chaudhary Dalbir Singh Indoor Stadium in Sirsa and Guru Gobind Singh Stadium in Dabwali will serve as temporary jails to keep detained farmers in case their march goes ahead, NDTV reported citing its sources.
Section 144 in Haryana, Delhi
Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in 15 of the 22 districts of Haryana to prevent farmer agitation. The Sonepat district administration has also released an order to petrol pumps to not fill more than 10 litres of diesel into the tractors of the farmers in the wake of farmer organisations’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ call.
Section 144 has been imposed in the entire Delhi ahead of farmers’ call for March to Delhi on February 13, informed Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora.
Meanwhile, Section 144 was also imposed at the Ghazipur, Tikri and Singhu border in Uttar Pradesh to avoid any untoward incident and maintain law and order. According to the Delhi Police order, the gathering of public at all borders between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and nearby areas in the jurisdictional area of northeast district will be prohibited.
Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory
The Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday issued an advisory ahead of farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ march’. The police have advised vehicle owners to follow the advisory to know about the traffic restrictions/diversions.
Traffic AdvisoryIn view of the proposed farmers' protest at various borders of Delhi from 13.02.2024, traffic diversions will be in place.
For commercial vehicles, traffic restrictions/diversions will be imposed from 12.02.2024.
