A farmer hailing from Punjab’s Bathinda was shot dead by the Haryana Police on Tuesday at Khanauri border, Congress MLA and Chairman of All India Kissan Congress Sukhpal Singh Khaira alleged as farmers intensified their protests after their talks with the Centre remained inconclusive so far.

The victim has been identified as Subhkaran Singh, a resident of Baloke village in Punjab’s Bathinda district, farmer leader Baldev Singh Sirsa said.

    Khaira, former Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, this is a grave matter of concern and extended his condolences to the family of the deceased farmer.

    He further wrote on the social media platform, “This is a matter of grave concern and at the same time shame for @BhagwantMann for being a mute spectator to blatant intrusion by Haryana police into Punjab territory injuring over 200 farmers and killing this youth."

    The Congress leader’s claim however was denied by the Haryana Police. The police said no farmer died on the borders today.

    “According to the information received so far, no farmer has died today #farmerprotest. This is just a rumour. There is information about two policemen and one protestor being injured at Data Singh-Khanori border who is undergoing treatment," Haryana Police said in a tweet.

      However, Patiala-based Rajindra Hospital’s medical superintendent H S Rekhi told reporters that three people, one of them dead, were brought to hospital from the Khanauri border point.
