Would you want to go for a health and wellness retreat near the Ram Temple in Ayodhya? Do yoga and meditation in a Saatvik atmosphere with a prohibition on liquor? Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi Adityanath government is planning to set up a Vedic Wellness City near the Ram Temple for this experience.

This proposed Vedic Wellness City will be just three kilometres from the temple in Ayodhya in the Manjha Kala locality and will come up in a big area of 25.82 acres spread over seven blocks, as per details with News18. It will include a comprehensive range of facilities designed to “promote holistic well-being", a government document says.

“The concept of the Vedic wellness city in Ayodhya aligns with the growing global demand for health and wellness retreats. Modern lifestyles, increasing stress levels, and the emphasis on preventive healthcare have led to a rising need for spaces that promote physical, mental, and emotional rejuvenation. By integrating traditional Indian wellness practices with modern techniques, the centre aims to serve as a haven for relaxation, rejuvenation, and self-care," the document says.

There will be open green spaces and lawns, “culturally-appropriate wellness practices" like yoga and meditation halls along with Ayush-related activities, and therapy and natural healing rooms in this Vedic Wellness City. Total prohibition will be in place, meaning no consumption of liquor or non-vegetarian food. “No services or products that conflict with the cultural and spiritual ethos of Ayodhya will be permitted," the UP government document regarding the proposal says.

The government will sign an agreement with a private party to set up and run the Vedic Wellness City on lease for 10 years. It will be all temporary tentage accommodation and wellness activities. “This scope ensures that the Vedic wellness city stays true to its vision of promoting holistic health while respecting the cultural and spiritual heritage of Ayodhya," the document says.

Ayodhya, known as the birthplace of Lord Ram, is a city of immense cultural, historical, and spiritual significance. It attracts millions of visitors annually, including pilgrims, spiritual seekers, and tourists from across the globe, especially since the Ram Temple coming up.
