Former World Champion boxer from Haryana, Saweety Boora was captured on video trying to attack her husband and kabbadi player Deepak Hooda at a police station in Hisar.
The couple, who had got married in 2022, have filed for a divorce. In the video, which went viral on Tuesday, Boora can be seen lunging and trying to grab Hooda by the throat while relatives on both sides try to restrain her.

The incident reportedly took place on March 15. Boora had filed for a divorce from Hooda, alleging him of physically assaulting her for dowry.
In the video, Boora and Hooda are seen sitting with their relatives when the boxer suddenly lunges towards the kabaddi ace and tries to grab him by the throat. Their relatives are seen trying to restrain them both as they get into an argument.

According to media reports, Boora said she had informed the Hisar superintendent of police on March 11 that she did not want to live with Hooda. She said she only wanted a divorce and her belongings, but nothing else. However, despite having submitted a list of her belongings, there had been no action so far, she added.
“On March 11, I informed the Hisar SP that I no longer want to live with him. I don’t want a single penny from him – just a divorce and my belongings. I submitted a partial list of my belongings, but no action has been taken in over a month… I appeal to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji and our Home Minister for justice. I initially kept quiet, hoping for a peaceful resolution…" she was quoted by DNA.
Hooda, meanwhile, said he was summoned to the police station for questioning. Both his wife and father-in-law were using harsh language when the former suddenly attacked him in the presence of police personnel. “During the questioning, my wife and her father started using harsh language. They assaulted me physically in the presence of cops and I received two injuries. Her maternal uncle Satyawan also accompanied them," he was quoted by Hindustan Times.
Boora was a gold medallist at the 2023 World Championships. Hooda was part of the Indian kabaddi team, which won the gold medal at the South Asian Games in 2016 and the bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. They are both recipients of the Arjuna Award.
Hooda also unsuccessfully contested the 2024 Haryana assembly elections as the BJP nominee from Meham constituency in Rohtak district.
WHAT IS THE DISPUTE?
Boora and Hooda have lodged police complaints against each other at the Hisar and Rohtak police stations. While Boora has alleged that the latter physically assaulted her and demanded Rs 1 crore with an SUV as dowry from her family, Hooda has accused her family of usurping his property and threatening him.
A case was registered under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to a husband or relative of the husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty. Police said Hooda had earlier failed to present himself to the authorities despite being given a notice two to three times. He had justified his absence by citing that his health had “taken a beating due to the trauma".
