The former sevadaar protesting inaction against the Mahant climbed a tower, prompting police intervention. Despite promises of an investigation, authorities charged the protester based on a sub-inspector's complaint

A former sevadaar (temple helper) has made shocking allegations against the head priest of the famous Manona Dham Khatu Shyam temple in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, accusing him of promoting superstition and exploiting devotees.
Vinod Yadav, the former sevadaar, claimed that he was lured into working at the temple with promises of money and then coerced into participating in activities that spread superstition.

Frustrated by the lack of action against the Mahant, Yadav climbed a high tower, drawing attention to his claims. Police arrived and persuaded him to come down, assuring him of an investigation. However, instead of taking action against the Mahant, the police have filed a case against Yadav based on a sub-inspector’s complaint.
Videos of Yadav’s allegations have gone viral on social media. The police are currently investigating the matter.
Yadav alleged that he set up a shop selling religious pictures within the temple premises. Trouble began when the head priest, Mahant Omendra Maharaj, demanded that his picture on the shop’s signage be larger than that of Baba Shyam, the temple’s deity.
When Yadav refused, his shop was allegedly demolished. This, Yadav claimed, is not an isolated incident. He also shared an instance where the Mahant allegedly slapped a woman and vandalised her shop.
Yadav further accused the Mahant of deceiving patients who visit the temple seeking cures. He alleged that the Mahant injects the patients with a substance that makes them unconscious. When they regain consciousness, the Mahant pretends to heal them by simply rubbing his hand on their heads.
