Despite extensive security, criminal activities persist. A recent incident involving a fake passport highlights this challenge. Kanwaljit Singh, a 23-year-old, arrived at IGI Airport, eager to travel abroad. During the routine passport verification, an immigration officer grew suspicious due to a sticky substance on Kanwaljit’s passport. Consequently, Kanwaljit was detained and monitored. Investigation revealed the presence of gum on the passport as a visa sticker was removed from the page.

Kanwaljit was promptly apprehended and handed over to IGI Airport Police, leading to an FIR and a thorough investigation.

    Elicitation Of Information Through Interrogation

During questioning, Kanwaljit Singh revealed that his relatives had motivated him to seek better job opportunities abroad. He connected with an agent named Rahul, introduced by his cousin. Rahul promised to obtain a Greek visa for Rs 1 lakh, which turned out to be counterfeit.

Subsequently, Rahul arranged for Kanwaljit to travel to Bangkok, assuring him of a visa upon arrival in Thailand. Kanwaljit paid the fee and received a flight ticket to Thailand. On Rahul’s advice, he removed the page with the fake Greek visa, leading to his detection at the airport due to glue remnants.

After a four-month long manhunt, police located and arrested Sanjeev in Delhi. Sanjeev confessed to the crime, revealing he had studied up to Class 12 and moved from Gujarat to West Bengal. He admitted to working as an agent for several years. Officials stated that the investigation is ongoing, with more arrests likely.
