Ranya Rao's Mother Seeks Court Order To Preserve CCTV Footage At Airport In Gold Smuggling Case
Ranya Rao's mother has petitioned to preserve CCTV footage at Bengaluru Airport regarding her daughter's alleged gold smuggling. The Karnataka High Court issued notices.
The mother of Kannada actress Ranya Rao has filed a petition requesting that the authorities at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) preserve CCTV footage related to her daughter’s alleged gold smuggling case.
In response, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday has issued a notice to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Airports Authority of India, and the central government.

The hearing has been adjourned to Wednesday.
In her petition, Rohini HP raised concerns that the CCTV footage may be automatically deleted after 30 days, as is standard practice. She has asked the court to intervene to ensure the footage is preserved, as it could aid in the investigation, The Times Of India reported.
Rao was arrested on March 3 at KIA upon her arrival from Dubai, after officials allegedly found 14 kg of gold, worth Rs 12.5 crore, concealed around her waist and calves using crepe bandages and tissues.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Rao approached the Karnataka High Court for bail after her plea was rejected by three subordinate courts. Her lawyer, BS Girish, filed the bail petition after her request was denied first by the Special Court for Economic Offences on March 14, and later by the 64th CCH Sessions Court on March 27.
Earlier, the Magistrate Court also refused her bail, citing the seriousness of the charges.
During a previous hearing, the DRI had informed the court that Rao admitted to purchasing gold illegally using hawala money. Legal proceedings have been initiated under Section 108 to investigate possible financial irregularities and violations of the law.
