Renting To Foreigners In Delhi? From Now, You'll Only Have 24 Hours To...
Delhi police are tightening measures to combat crime, particularly drug smuggling by foreign nationals, following a recent surge in such cases

Delhi Police have issued new guidelines for landlords renting properties to foreign nationals, following a meeting between Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Home Minister Amit Shah. The move comes amid concerns over rising crime in the capital and aims to strengthen national security.
Landlords are now required to inform the Foreign Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 24 hours of a foreign national taking up residence. They must also provide tenant details to their local police station for background checks and maintain a register of foreign tenants.

A Delhi Police official said that a register must be maintained in the prescribed Form ‘B’ format, which should be available for inspection by authorities upon request.
“It has been observed that many property owners fail to report the stay of foreign guests to the FRRO. As per the Foreigners Act, along with the Foreigners (Amendment) Order, 2016, and Foreigners (Amendment) Rules, 2016, it is mandatory for property owners to inform the FRRO about foreign nationals staying on their premises within 24 hours," a Delhi Police spokesperson said in a statement.
The information must be submitted by filling out Form ‘C’, which can be completed online or offline by visiting the FRRO office. “Failure to comply with these legal requirements may result in legal consequences for property owners," said the spokesperson.
These measures follow a recent spike in criminal cases involving foreign nationals, particularly in drug smuggling operations. The new guidelines are part of a broader crackdown on crime in Delhi, spearheaded by the police following a directive from Home Minister Shah.
