Student Killed In Firing In Aligarh Muslim University, Police Search For Accused

A dispute between two students in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus took a violent turn. After a minor altercation, one student shot another student, identified as Mohammad Kaif, on the spot.
After this incident, there was chaos in the university campus and an atmosphere of fear was created among the students.

According to eyewitnesses, both the students were arguing with each other about something. The matter escalated so much that a student opened fire in anger. The bullet hit Mohammad Kaif directly after which he fell on the ground.
After the incident, the fellow students immediately informed the police and the university administration. The injured student was taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), but the doctors declared him dead.
As soon as the information about the firing was received, the Civil Lines police station reached the spot, the police took the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the police is scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the university campus to find out who the student was who fired and how he got the weapon. The police have also started questioning some students and eyewitnesses.
According to preliminary investigation, this case may be related to mutual rivalry. The police is also investigating whether any third party had any role in this dispute or the matter was of personal enmity.
The Aligarh Muslim University administration has expressed deep condolences over the incident and appealed to the students to maintain peace.
The administration said that the increasing violence among the students is a matter of concern, and security will be tightened.
This incident of firing angered the students of AMU and the local people. The students said that such incidents in educational institutions are very worrying and the administration needs to strengthen the security system further.
Reacting to the incident, Circle Officer Abhay Kumar Pandey said that this incident is very unfortunate. “We have started searching for the suspects and the culprits will be arrested soon. There is also a discussion about security in the university campus," he added.
