Manisha Koirala, who was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, has made a full recovery and is now cancer free, thanks to the support she received from her family. Since her recovery, she has been raising awareness about cancer. Recently, the Studio Ghibli trend took the internet by storm and Manisha received a special surprise from her Myanmar based fanbase, who turned her photos with her parents, Prakash and Sushma Koirala, into illustrations inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s films. These pictures, taken during her cancer treatment, show her parents taking care of the actress. The post quickly went viral and it not only caught Manisha’s attention, her Heeramndi co-star, Sonakshi Sinha was also touched by it.

Sharing the photos, Manisha’s fans page wrote, “Look at each picture. You’ll know what I mean and something will be left in your heart. Manisha Koirala ma’am is so lucky and strong girl for me. The pictures are so perfect it doesn’t need a caption. The picture is a little wrong, but I’m posting it because it’s so beautiful and I love it."

Soon after Manisha Koirala came across the post, she wrote, “Too sweet, thank you." Sonakshi Sinha also noticed the post and showed her support by simply liking the pictures.

In an interview with ANI last year, Manisha Koirala shared how she felt when she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer back in 2012. She said that during that time, the actress believed she was not going to survive.

The Dil Se star said, “I had no clue that it was the last stage of ovarian cancer. When I was diagnosed in Nepal, I was very fearful, obviously, like everybody else, extremely. We were in Jaslok Hospital. There also, when the doctors came, the two, three doctors, the top doctors and I spoke to them, I felt I was going to die. And I felt this was the end of me."

After surviving the cancer, Manisha Koirala said she “knew one thing, if I got a second chance at life, I had to go and fix the score because life gave me so much. I felt I was the one who ruined everything. So I wanted to correct that mistake. I felt responsible towards my work because there were so many fans I had disappointed by doing bad films. I prayed that if I got a second chance, I really wanted to do the best that I could and not disappoint my fans. So I felt Heeramandi was that for me. I really put my every effort into that."

In 2018, Manisha released a book titled Healed, where she shared her journey and through her book, she hopes to give support to other women who are going through ovarian cancer.
