Singer Mika Singh has always held Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan in the highest regard, and his stories of admiration are as heartwarming as they are amusing. In a candid conversation with The Lallantop, Mika revealed how he once gatecrashed Bachchan’s Diwali party and fell victim to a playful prank by his brother, Daler Mehndi, involving a Bachchan impersonator.

Mika recalled how captivated he was by Bachchan’s grand Diwali celebrations. “Every year, Mr Bachchan would celebrate Diwali at his house, and I would pass by and admire all the decorations. I always wanted to be invited. I had a big car, a Hummer, so I entered his house without an invitation once. I took a couple of rounds, and exited. I used to invite him to my shows. I would send him messages, and he would reply, ‘God bless you.’"

The story took a humorous turn when Mika shared these experiences with his brother Daler Mehndi, who decided to have some fun. Daler claimed Mika hadn’t been speaking to the real Amitabh Bachchan. “He told me, ‘I’ll get you the real Bachchan on the line, wait.’ And he called a number and started saying, ‘Mr Bachchan, here, my brother Mika wants to talk to you.’ I immediately stood up out of respect, and spoke to Mr Bachchan. He sounded exactly like him. I didn’t know that Daler paaji had pulled a prank on me; I was talking to some duplicate."

Mika eventually discovered the truth but had a touching moment with the real Amitabh Bachchan. After Mika stopped sending show invites, he encountered Bachchan on a film set. “One day, at a shoot, Mr Bachchan was there, and I was trying to hide from him. He called me over and asked me why I’d stopped sending him messages. He said that he would look forward to them, and that I shouldn’t stop. That’s the day my admiration for him increased."

Mika also shared another instance of Bachchan’s humility when the superstar attended the ‘mahurat’ of a film Mika had acted in, which he knew would flop. Mika recalled, “He honoured his word, and performed the mahurat for my flop film. He said he’d be there at 9 am, and he showed up exactly on time."

Mika Singh has carved a niche for himself in the Indian music industry with a career spanning over two decades. Known for his energetic and versatile voice, he has delivered countless chartbusters such as Mauja Hi Mauja, Bas Ek King, Subah Hone Na De, and Aankh Marey. His distinctive style, combined with his ability to seamlessly blend traditional and contemporary sounds, has made him one of Bollywood’s most sought-after playback singers. Beyond his singing career, Mika is also a performer and composer, known for his electrifying stage presence and global fanbase.
