Stephen Colbert asked Pierce Brosnan, “What’s the first day like? Your first day shooting as James Bond?" To this, Brosnan said, “All first days are terrifying. The first day for me was Robbie Coltrane — he was the bad guy — Minnie Driver was singing ‘Stand by Your Man’ with a Russian accent, and I’d actually just had hand surgery."

Robbie Coltrane played the role of Russian mafia boss Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in GoldenEye. Meanwhile, British singer and actress Minnie Driver made a brief cameo as a nightclub singer.

Pierce Brosnan revealed that before his first filming day, he had an accident at home. The actor was forced to spend 12 weeks in a hand splint after slicing a tendon. Despite removing the medical device, he could barely move his hand.

Speaking about the particular sequence, Pierce Brosnan said, “The very first shot is the camera following Robbie Coltrane, and he comes behind a curtain, and I point the gun to his head, and he says, ‘Only three men in the world own that weapon, and I’ve killed two of them.’ “My finger went, ‘Toot!’ — like this", demonstrating what happened.

To solve the problem, Pierce Brosnan attached a Band-Aid to the gun. “And that was it. Problem solved. Got through the day’s work," he said.

After GoldenEye, Pierce Brosnan played James Bond in three more films, namely Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002). His latest HBO drama series, MobLand, also featuring Tom Hardy and Helen Mirren released on March 30.
