Pratik Gandhi, who rose to fame with Scam 1992, weighed in on the challenges that the Hindi film industry is currently facing. During an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, the actor shared his thoughts on Bollywood’s struggles, noting that audiences have evolved much faster than the industry itself.

“I think there are multiple challenges, multiple places where they’ll have to focus right now. First is the actual scripts. People are…way beyond your thinking right now," Gandhi said. He attributed this shift to the easy availability of international shows and films. “People may not understand the language, but it proves that a piece of art has no language barrier. If it is well-made and well-performed, it will be understood," he added.

Gandhi further emphasised the importance of having faith in the audience and embracing creativity instead of relying on outdated formulas. “The biggest failure, I guess, is everybody is falling prey to the formula which never exists. If there was a formula, there would be one producer or director who has never given a flop," he remarked.

On his latest project, Phule, Gandhi expressed hope but acknowledged the numerous obstacles involved in its box office success. “It has to reach the maximum audience, and there’s a lot of obstacles… right from marketing, getting shows, release budgets—everything plays a major role. But my gut feeling says it’s a film of word-of-mouth. It’s a film where people will definitely fall in love with the characters and their journey."

Further reflecting on his versatile career, Gandhi said he has consciously made decisions to avoid being typecast. “I don’t want to put myself in one cage… Before the audience decides that, ‘Okay, he’s very good at this,’ I present them with a new bracket," he stated. His acclaimed performances in Scam 1992, Mudgaon Express, Phule and various other projects have only reinforced his mettle as a versatile performer.

Pratik Gandhi has been a part of the entertainment industry for a while now, navigating his way through theatres and Gujarati films, before making it big in the Hindi film industry. And then, in the year 2020, Scam 1992 happened. Gandhi’s life changed overnight. Recalling the days, the actor told us, “I still remember talking to my wife, my brother, and my mother… I had no clue what happened because I had been working the same way for so many years. The credit goes to the makers. I was captured well for the first time, maybe."

Despite his achievements, Gandhi said that he wears his “heart on his sleeves". “All the failures made me even stronger as an actor and a person. The longer wait actually prepared me to digest the success, to understand it in a different way. Never wear your success on your sleeves; it’s just part of the process. The best part is to enjoy the whole process," he concluded.
