Priyanka Chopra Had 'Battles To Fight' In Bollywood, Says Dia Mirza: 'Her Brother And Mother Were Very Involved'
Dia Mirza said some of Priyanka Chopra's battles became more intense over the years.
Priyanka Chopra, Dia Mirza and Lara Dutta share a longstanding bond. They made their Bollywood debuts around the same time after winning popular beauty pageants in the same year. Although Priyanka Chopra had some financial support from her family, Lara and Dia survived on noodles in a tiny apartment. Dia Mirza recently recalled their struggling days and opened up about the challenges they faced.
In an interview with Zoom, Dia said, “We (me and Lara) shared Wai Wai noodles, we had no money." “Priyanka still had some support from her parents but Lara and I didn’t. Lara was already living here because she was modelling and she had opened her heart to me and shared her apartment, which was the size of a matchbox. I remember helping her pack for her Miss Universe and going away," she said.

The actress recalled, “We would both laugh hysterically like just look at us ‘bhaade ke kapde (rented clothes)’. ‘Hum kitne glamorous lag rahe hain par bank men paise nahi hain (We look so glamorous but we have no money in the bank.)’"
While Lara and Priyanka made their debuts together in Andaz, Dia Mirza had already starred in three flop flips. “Naturally, there was a lot of comparison," she said. However, this never affected their friendship. Additionally, Dia said that while Priyanka was doing “extraordinarily well" in Bollywood, she had other challenges.
Dia said, “She had other battles to fight and deal with, and she continued to, and some of those just intensified with time, but she was doing really well and so, one only had awe and respect for that. You kind of looked at it and said, ‘what incredible confidence.’ I remember thinking to myself – ‘If I was half the actor she is, how much further I would be able to go.’" “Even in Priyanka’s situation, it’s not like she was coming from… she had solid support and her parents were very involved, especially her brother and mother were very involved," she said.
