Kishore Sahu was one of the prominent actors and directors of the 1960s. Born on November 22, 1915, Kishore Sahu is best known for films like The Guide and Poonam Ki Raat. He shot to fame in the film industry by playing Rosie Marco’s (Waheeda Rehman) husband Marco’s role with utmost perfection. This film, directed by Tad Danielewski, starred stalwarts like Dev Anand, Leela Chitnis, Iftekhar and other actors in important roles. Vijay Anand directed the Hindi version of this film. The Guide became a hit at the box office and received accolades from the audience. Apart from this film, Kishore Sahu also acted in the films Mayurpankh, Kali Ghata, and Hare Kanch Ki Chooriyan. With these films, the Guide actor cemented his position in the entertainment industry.

Kishore Sahu made his debut in the entertainment industry with the film Jeevan Prabhat directed by Franz Osten. Released on November 2, 1937, Jeevan Prabhat starred Devika Rani, Mumtaz Ali, Renuka Devi and others in important roles. For those who don’t know, actor Ashok Kumar had reportedly referred him to the Bombay Talkies owner Himanshu Rai. It was Rai who eventually roped in Kishore Sahu for playing the lead role in the film Jeevan Prabhat. After this film, Kishore Sahu also acted in another film titled Bahurani headlined by Nana Palsikar. He then got to act in many renowned films like Kala Bazar, Love in Simla, etc and enthralled the audiences with his on-screen charisma.
Direction and writing
Kishore Sahu also etched his name in the annals of Bollywood with his direction skills by directing the film Kunwara Baap. He then directed many other films Raja, Shararat, and Nadiya Ke Paar. His last film as a filmmaker was Dhuen Ki Lakeer. Kishore Sahu also dabbled in writing and wrote some of the box-office hits including Apnapan, Hare Kanch Ki Chooriyan and Teen Bahuraniyan.
Personal Life
A multifaceted artist, Kishore Sahu was briefly married to Snehprabha Pradhan, his co-actress from Punar Milan (1940). Their marriage ended in 1943 after a court battle. He later married Preeti, a Kumaoni Brahmin, and they had four children: Vimal Sahu, Naina Sahu, Mamta Sahu, and Rohit Sahu.
Death
Kishore Sahu died on August 22, 1980 in Bangkok, Thailand.
