Shabana Azmi Shares Her Views On Gender Equality, Claims 'Society Remains Deeply Patriarchal'

Shabana Azmi has captivated the audience with her latest female-led crime drama series Dabba Cartel. The actress stars as Sheila, a member of a group of women who run an undercover drug business. During a recent interview, the actress shared her views on feminism and gender equality. She stated that a woman cannot see the world through anything other than a feminine perspective.
In conversation with ANI, while discussing her new show, Shabana Azmi stated, “A woman doesn’t have the option to view the world from anything other than a feminine lens. That’s something both men and women need to understand." The actress also reflected on her background and how she grew up in a community where women had equal opportunities. However, she later learned that her upbringing was an exception, not the norm in most women. Shabana added, “Society remains deeply patriarchal, and women sometimes accept certain liberties being taken with them."

Speaking about why she chose to be part of Dabba Cartel, Shabana Azmi stated at this point in her career, she does not have a checklist, but rather the desire to take on projects that actually interest her.
Dabba Cartel depicts the lives and challenges of a group of women who operate a traditional lunchbox business. What begins as a small business quickly traps them and their spouses in the shadowy world of Viva Life Pharmaceuticals. They become enmeshed with a drug cartel. Criminals, law enforcement and other entities confront them as they move unlawful products through their seemingly innocent-looking service.
Dabba Cartel, directed by Hitesh Bhatia and written by Vishnu Menon and Bhavna Kher, is co-produced by Shibani Akhtar, Vishnu Menon, Gaurav Kapur, and Akanksha Seda. The series also has an ensemble cast including Gajraj Rao, Jyotika, Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, Jisshu Sengupta, Lillete Dubey and Bhupendra Singh Jadawat.
Prior to Dabba Cartel, Shabana Azmi was seen in Ghoomer which also starred Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher. She was also seen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani alongside Dharmendra, Alia Bhatt, Ranveer Singh and others.
