Salman Khan is gearing up to entertain his fans this Eid with his much-anticipated film Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss. While he made his debut with a small role in Biwi Ho To Aisi, it was Maine Pyar Kiya that catapulted him to stardom. Recalling his early days, Salman once shared his father Salim Khan’s words after watching Sooraj Barjatya’s romantic classic.

At the time, Salman was enjoying a break post-Maine Pyar Kiya, when his father told him he was destined to become a “cult figure" and that only he could be responsible for his own downfall. Years later, when Salim Khan reiterated a similar sentiment, it served as a powerful motivation for Salman, pushing him to work even harder and reach greater heights in his career.

While appearing on Prabhu Chawla’s Seedhi Baat on Aaj Tak, the superstar said, “There was a time when I had stopped working and I was just partying enjoying. My father called me up when he saw the rushes of Maine Pyar Kiya, it was late in the night and it was very important for me to know his reaction. He said, ‘Come here. What do you think, you’ll become a star?’ I said, ‘I don’t know daddy, you tell me.’ He says, ‘You are going to be a cult figure and if there’s anybody who can foul it out for you, it’s you, god doesn’t want that to happen, we don’t want it to happen and neither do your fans don’t want it to happen. If there’s anybody, who’s going to mess it up….’."

“He told me the same thing, 4-5 years back. He said, ‘Do you remember son, what I told you once? Anybody, who can mess it up for you, it’s you.’ I just looked at him, I went down and I said, ‘Now watch out.’ It is very very important, it’s your energy. In that point of time, I said to myself, ‘I going to start working once again now’," Salman Khan added.

Since then, the actor didn’t look back and delivered some of the biggest Bollywood hits, including Saajan, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Karan Arjun, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Partner, Wanted and Ek Tha Tiger, among others. His upcoming film, Sikandar is scheduled to release on March 28.
