Paris Olympics 2024: Aman Sehrawat Claims Bronze Medal in 57kg Wrestling With Dominant Win Over Puerto Rico's Damien Cruz

When it mattered the most, Aman Sehrawat shone the brightest as the Indian wrestler dominated Puerto Rico’s Darien Toi Cruz to clinch the Bronze medal in the Men’s 57kg Freestyle event at the Paris Olympics on Friday.
Aman, who suffered a crushing 10-0 loss to Japan’s Higuchi Rei previously, came back strong to dominate the Puerto Rican in a bout that ended 13-5 in favour of the Indian.

With his win, India’s medal tally goes up to 6 medals now, with 5 Bronze and 1 Silver, while Sehrwat also scripted history, becoming the youngest Olympic medallist for India at 21 years of age.
The bout started off with both wrestlers going for it out the gate. Cruz especially went for Sehrawat’s legs, pushing him out of bounds to claim the first point.
Sehrawat though wouldn’t budge already, as he would find the tackle from around the back to push Cruz down and gather two points of his own to take the narrow 2-1 lead.
Both wrestlers’ dynamic aggression kept everyone at their feet, with active grapples and switches to keep on going at each other.
Nearing the halfway mark, Cruz would get the better of Aman and attack his lower body to sweep him off his feet and take Sehrawat by surprise to gather two points of his own. But, before he could savour the same, Aman would once again swoop Cruz off his feet as well, reclaiming his lead and going into the halfway break with a 4-3 lead.
Sehrawat would remain consistent with his aggression, employing some quick footwork to bamboozle Cruz in timely intervals and extend his lead by two more points.
But, a relentelss Cruz would also find his way around, pushing Sehrawat away to nab two points away and keep the contest close.
Aman’s determination and grit though would not be broken, as the Indian would fight back harder every time he was taken down, to keep on reclaiming his lead as he stood with a 10-5 lead with a little over a minute to go.
With the finish line in sight, Sehrawat would lock in, pinning down Cruz at will, as he kept on extending his lead with ease.
After a painful final minute for Cruz, where he was completely outclassesd, the bout would finally end 13-5 as Sehrawat walked away with the Bronze.
Sehrawat ensured himself an easy passage into the quarterfinal with a dominating performance against North Macedonian rival Vladimir Egorov in the 57kg freestyle category at the Paris Olympics.
Sehrawat continued his dominant start in the 57kg freestyle category after entering the semifinals of the ongoing Paris Olympics on Thursday. Aman outclassed 4th seed Albanian Zelimkhan Abakarov 12-0 via technical superiority to make it to the last-four round.
But, the grappler’s luck would run out soon in embarrasing fashion too, as he was beaten 0-10 by Japanese grappler Higuchi Rei in the semifinal.
