Biopics as a trend are far from fading away, at least not in the coming years. In fact, Bollywood has just begun to scrape the surface on the many interesting stories that need to be told on celluloid and make for compelling cinematic watching experiences. Be it emotion, revelations, discovery, these core reasons have made the biopic genre a pretty successful one too, making filmmakers look to real-life stories to be essayed on screen. Here's a look at few strong and powerful roles set to be in focus in 2019.

'83: Kollywood actor Jiiva has joined hands with the makers of '83 biopic. He will be seen playing Kris Srikkanth in the much-awaited cricket drama based on the real-life story of the 1983 World Cup.
Narendra Modi Biopic: Vivek Oberoi will be seen essaying the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the latter's biopic, titled PM Narendra Modi. Helmed by Omung Kumar, the film will go on floors in mid-January. Vivek has been working on his distinct looks, and will be part of extensive workshops. A big chunk of the film will be shot in Gujarat, apart from other states”, a source from the production said.

Shakeela: Braving to bring the story of a woman who was tagged and bracketed for her choices of starring in adult films in the late 90s, Shakeela starring Richa Chadha brings the story of the woman who was a pioneer and a true revolutionary in the south film business during her time. Directed by award-winning director, Indrajit Lankesh, the film will tell the story of Shakeela who defied norms during her time in a male-dominated business.

Chhapaak: Helmed by Meghna Gulzar, Deepika Padukone will bring to celluloid the true story of a brave woman, Laxmi Agarwal.

Saina Nehwal Biopic: In this Amol Gupte directorial, Shraddha will play the young sporting icon of India, Saina Nehwal. A former world No: 1, Saina is the winner of over 23 international titles in badminton having earned India a reputable name in international sports.

Deborah Herold Biopic: Jacqueline Fernandez will play the ace Indian cyclist in her upcoming biopic. Deborah is a 23-year-old cyclist who hails from the Nicobar Islands, and was the first Indian cyclist to compete in the UCI, Union Cycliste Internationale.

Gunjan Saxena Biopic: Jhanvi Kapoor will lead the way for bringing forth the story of Gunjan Saxena, the first Indian woman combat aviator who evacuated injured soldiers in the 1999 Kargil War.

The Accidental Prime Minister: One of the most awaited films of the year is ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ is an upcoming Indian biographical political drama film directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and written by Mayank Tewari. Anupam Kher will be seen playing as the former prime minister of India Manmohan Singh. The film is based on the 2014 memoir of the same name by Sanjaya Baru.
