
High-resolution displays - This year we saw tech companies focusing primarily on the resolution of a display. From Samsung to Apple to Motorola to Micromax, almost all tech companies were seen working hard in fitting more pixels into the display of their devices. The high-resoltuion was a hot topic this year in the world of tech.
Large-screened phones - We witnessed a rise in the number of large-screened phones this year. From home-grown manufacturers to tech titans, almost every company came up with at least one large-screened phone this year.

Photo filters - Many people were seen using photo editing apps thsi year like Instagram and Pixlr O-matic on Android, PicMix on BlackBerry and so on. This was evident as most of the photographs seen this year on networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus had photo filters applied to them.

Windows 8 - Though Microsoft launched its Windows 8 OS a few months back, but the revamped version of Windows remained a hot topic throughout the year.

WhatsApp - Instant Messaging is not something new, but WhatsApp, a cross-platform mobile messaging app for smartphones, has become so popular now that it has become a threat to SMSs.

7-inch tablets - The 7-inch tablets became a hot trend this year. The Indian markets were bombarded with 7-inch tablets in 2012. The 7-inch size was considered apt for a tablet that tech giants like Google, Amazon and Barnes and Noble launched the same in different versions. The demand for 7-inch tablets was too high that Apple, which was always against the idea of a 7-inch tablet, also came up with the iPad Mini.

BlackBerry-maker RIM's downturn - While Apple's iPhones and smartphones running Google's Android OS were seen capturing a large share of market, BlackBerry-maker RIM on the other hand was seen fading away. BlackBerry phones which were once seen as status symbol devices have now become a source of mild embarrassment. The company saw a sharp decline in its sales this year. The launch of BlackBerry 10 phones is going to be a make-or-break situation for RIM.

Low-cost tablets - Considering the price sensitivity of Indian customers, many second-rung manufacturers in India came up with low-cost tablets this year. Most of these low-costs tabs are priced under Rs 7K.

Cloud storage - The cloud-based storage service lets users store data online on the company's servers, and access the same from anywhere, anytime. The year saw an exponential growth in the usage of cloud storage. From Apple to Google to Microsoft, almost all major companies have started pushing consumers to use cloud storage services. Many of them have started offering cloud storage for free (up to a certain limit). Google also came up with its cloud-base storage service Google Drive this year. The biggest competitor to the tech behemoths in online storage is the four-year old Dropbox.

Online shopping - The online shopping space is growing significantly in India. Sections that people explore the most while browsing e-commerce sites include clothing, gadgets and books. The attractive deals being offered by e-commerce websites everyday is the main cause behind the increase in online shopping.
