Neeraj Chopra Produces Season Best Throw to Finish Second at Lausanne Diamond League 2024

Chopra finished second in the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League 2024 on Friday with a season-best throw of 89.49m at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise.

Star Indian javelin throw athlete Neeraj Chopra finished second in the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League 2024 on Friday with a season-best throw of 89.49m at the Stade Olympique de la Pontaise.

Granada’s Anderson Peters pipped Chopra to the top spot with a meet record of 90.61m while German Julius Weber completed the top three with a best attempt of 87.08m on the day.

    Chopra opened the event with an attempt of 82.10m but was pushed behind by Peters, who posted a throw of 86.36m with his first throw and Weber, who registered his best throw of the day on the first attempt.

    Chopra was pushed out of the top three places early on and remained there till the end of four attempts. However, the Paris Olympics silver medallist made his way back to third with his fifth attempt of 85.58m.

    The final throw added to the drama as Peters scaled the 90m mark on his sixth attempt of the day to break the meeting record and claim a season-best for himself.

    The valiant Chopra displayed his fight and produced his longest throw of the season to edge out Weber to the second spot.

    Chopra managed to post six legal attempts on the day and wasn’t flagged even once for a foul, similar to what Peters demonstrated at the Swiss city in a stong field.

      Chopra climbed up to third in the season’s overall standings with his second-place finish at Lausanne and sits comfortably in the top-six spots, which guarantees a berth in the final of the event slated to be held in Brussels in September.

      Chopra, who is yet to breach the coveted 90m mark, has a personal best of 89.94m which he achieved during the Stockholm Diamond League back in the year 2022.
