Paris Paralympics 2024 Day 10 HIGHLIGHTS: Navdeep Gets Gold; Simran Wins Bronze

Only one Indian in action on Sunday as India’s Pooja Ojha will compete in the Para Canoe Women’s KL1 200m.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday announced a cash award of Rs one crore, 500 sq yards of land at Warangal and a suitable post in Group-II Services for Deepthi Jeevanji, who won a bronze medal in the Paris Paralympics.

Reddy also announced Rs 10 lakh to her coach N Ramesh, a Dronacharya awardee, an official release said.

Deepthi Jeevanji , India’s world champion, won a bronze medal in the women’s 400m T20 category race, clocking 55.82 seconds in the Paris Paralympics recently.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said that when athletes win medals in major international competitions they don’t just bring laurels for themselves but also for their coaches, parents and the entire nation.

“When you play, you do not just achieve success for yourself but also bring pride to your coaches, your parents, and the entire nation,” said Mandaviya.

Club throw silver medallist at the Paris Paralympics Pranav Soorma and his father Sanjeev have quite a few things in common, the most striking being their looks — well-groomed beards complimented by their ponytail hairstyle.

Even in a crowd of a million, no one can miss the father-son duo, the 29-year-old in a wheelchair and the elder Soorma pushing it assiduously to keep his ward safe and secure.

The bond between the two is the reason Pranav, a quadriplegic, achieved glory in his debut Games with a throw of 34.59m in the F51 category.

Only Para Athletics events left for the day as India’s Simran Sharma, Dilip Gavit and Navdeep Singh will be in action.

So disappointment for India in all three events their athletes were part of (canoeing, cycling and swimming). Now the focus shifts to the track and field events which will be held later today.

Jyoti Gaderiya is also one lap down and finishes with -1 Lap in the para cycling women’s C1-3 Road Race Final. She’s 15th in the field of 15.

Unfortunately, Arshad Shaik is a lap down which means his race has ended. Overall, he finishes 28th in the para cycling men’s C1-3 Road Race Final.

Disappointment for Prachi Yadav as she finishes eighth in the final of the para canoe women’s VL2 200m Final A with a timing of 1:08.55. Emma Wiggs of Great Britain has topped the final with a timing of 58.88s followed by Brianna Hennessy (1:00.12) Brianna of Canada at second and Australia’s Susan Seipel (1:01.39) at the third spot.

In para canoe women’s VL2 200m Final A, India’s Prachi Yadav will be in action shortly and will be aiming to create history.

In para cycling women’s C1-3 Road Race Final, Jyoti Gaderiya is still languishing at the 15th spot in the field of 15. 14km remaining in this final now.

Arshad Shaik continues to be 28th in the para cycling men’s C1-3 Road Race Final. Just 13.2km remaining in the final now.

With 42.6km done, Arshad Shaik remains 28th in the field of 29 (three have failed to finish from the initial starting list of 31). 27.4km remaining now.

In the para cycling women’s C1-3 Road Race Final, India’s Jyoti Gaderiya continues to be at the 15th spot in the field of 15. She has covered distance of 28.4km in 1:10:23. Keiko Sugiura of Japan was leading the final at this stage. 28.2km remaining in this race now.

In the para cycling men’s C1-3 Road Race Final, India’s Arshad Shaik has improved a couple of places to be 28th now in the field. He’s completed 28.4km with a timing of 53.52seconds. 41.6km still to go in this final.

India’s Prachi Yadav has qualified for the Final A (medals round) of the para canoe women’s VL2 200m. She finished third in her semifinal of the event with a timing of 1:05.66. The final will start from 3:22 PM IST.

Suyash Jadhav finishes 10th overall in the standings after the two heats with a timing of 33.47seconds. The top-eight have qualified for the final round. Suyash though is among the two reserves (China’s Huang Xianquan being the other) and will advance provided if a qualifier is unable to swim in the final round.

India para swimmer Suyash Jadhav has finished 5th with a timing of 33.47s in his heat of men’s 50m Butterfly S7 event. A total of 12 swimmers are taking part in this event who have been divided into two heats of six each. The top-eight fastest from the two heats will advance into the final.

In the para swimming men’s 50m butterfly S7 (Heat), India’s Suyash Jadhav will be in action soon.

In the para cycling women’s C1-3 Road Race Final, India’s Jyoti Gaderiya is currently last – 15th – in the event having completed 14.2km in 33 minutes and 45 seconds. Clara Brown of USA is currently leading having completed the distance in 23 minutes and 59 seconds.  42.4km still to go in this race.

In the para canoe men’s KL1 200m semifinal 1,  India’s Yash Kumar hasn’t advanced to the final after finishing fifth. He clocked 1:02.03 to finish last in his semifinal.

In the para cycling men’s C1-3 road race final, India’s Arshad Shaik is currently at the 30th spot after completing 14.2km in 26 minutes and 15seconds. Thomas Peyroton-Dartet of France is leading the race having completed the distance of 14.2km in 20 minutes and 31 seconds. Still 55.8km to go in this race.
