Google Claims AI Has Finally Solved The Fake Maps Reviews For Users: What We Know
Fake reviews on the internet are a big menace which can easily dupe the person into going to a popular cafe or buying a highly-recommended item online.

Google has a major fake review problem on Maps that can deceive people into going to the wrong cafe or even a popular spot in the city. The company is heavily investing in AI across its products and now it claims the fake reviews will be a thing of the past as it blocks and removes these cheating accounts.
Five-star ratings are the biggest sign of a popular place and Maps is the ideal platform where users rely on these stats. But the system has been gamed and abused to such a level that Google had to take action, which it has finally done.

Fake Reviews Gone?
Countries like India, US and the UK are the major benefactors of these changes. In fact, Google says Maps users will be notified about disabling reviews for a café or a store that have seen a sudden increase in high-rated reviews for a place.
Fraudsters are riddled across the Play Store but you cannot deny the issues posed by fake reviews on Maps, especially if they direct you to scammers who have fed their data on the platform to dupe people.
So, how is Google doing these tracking? The company says it has trained a new model using Gemini to detect and alert about suspicious profile edits and rampant high-star rated reviews. The company even says it has used the power of AI to block or remove more than 240 million reviews in 2024 that violated its policies.
It has also gotten rid of over 12 million fake business profiles during this period. These numbers clearly paint a worrying picture and AI has its lapses but if the technology can fix the fake review mess, we’re not complaining.
