The T20 World Cup 2024 will begin on June 1 with co-hosts USA taking on neighbours Canada at the Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, Dallas. Co-hosts the West Indies will play Papua New Guinea in Guyana on the second day of group play. India’s first match is on June 5 vs Ireland Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York at 8:00 PM IST. 20 teams will be participating in the 9th edition of the T20 World Cup in the 29-day tournament in the USA and The West Indies. 16 matches will be held in Lauderhill, Dallas and New York and the blockbuster clash between India vs Pakistan will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island on June 9. 41 matches will be played in the Caribbean across six different islands, with semi-finals in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana and the final to be played in Barbados on June 29. The 20 teams are split into 4 groups of 5 teams each with the top two teams from each group progressing to the super 8s and the top 4 from super 8s will play the semi-finals and final. India and Pakistan are in Group A alongside Canada, co-hosts USA and Ireland. Group B consists of the last defending champions England and 2021 winner Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman. Group C has the West Indies, New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea. Group D comprises South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands and Nepal. England are the defending champions winning the 2022 T20 World Cup beating Pakistan in Melbourne. India were the inaugural winners of T20 World Cup winning the title under MS Dhoni in 2009 while West Indies and England are the most successful teams in T20 World Cup history having won the title twice. West Indies won in 2012 and 2016, while England won in 2010 and 2022. Other winners of the T20 World Cup are Pakistan (2009), Sri Lanka (2014) and Australia (2021). India are the most successful team in terms of bet win percentage of teams with at least two T20 World Cup appearances with 63.95%, followed by Australia (62.50%), and then Sri Lanka (61.76).
