The 18-year-old has rented the toilet at her workplace and turned it into her living space. Yes, you read that right.

    Identified as Yang, she works at a furniture store in Hunan, China. Unwilling to pay 800 yuan (around Rs 9,422) in rent, she convinced her boss’s wife to let her live in the company’s restroom instead.

    The teenager, who earns 2,700 yuan (around Rs 31,800) a month, struggled to find an affordable place to stay. As a result, she opted to pay her employer just £5 (Rs 545) per month to use the bathroom as her living space, according to The New York Post.

    Initially, Yang offered to pay £21 (Rs 2,290) per month, but her boss’s wife refused, charging her only enough to cover electricity and water costs. While sleeping in the showroom was an option, Yang chose the bathroom, as the office space felt too open and scary at night. She shares glimpses of her daily life on the popular short-video app Douyin.

    Yang has been living in the restroom for nearly a month. To create privacy, she hangs a large cloth over the bathroom stall doors and sets up a folding bed to prevent intrusions at night. She has also installed a clothing rail for storage and even cooks inside the restroom using a portable hob.

    The 18-year-old does her laundry in the bathroom and dries her clothes on the rooftop of the building. To maintain hygiene, Yang keeps the restroom meticulously clean, ensuring there is no odour while she sleeps.

      During store hours, she packs away her belongings to allow customers and employees to use the restroom.

      According to The New York Post, Yang has no intention of renting a room elsewhere as long as she remains with the company. Content with her unconventional lifestyle, she hopes to save enough money to buy a house or a car in the future.
