A shocking incident has come to light from the Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi district in Chhattisgarh. Amidst a persistent shortage of teachers in government schools in the district, a teacher has abandoned his teaching duties to engage in various marketing activities, earning lakhs of rupees.
Sunil Patel, an assistant teacher posted in the Marwahi block, recently gained widespread attention on social media. On December 27, he submitted his resignation on plain paper to the Marwahi Block Education Officer (BEO), stating that he no longer wishes to work with a “servant mindset" and desired to enjoy the life with a “personal mindset".

Sunil Patel was first appointed on June 21, 2010 at Ghurdevapara Primary School in Marwahi block. However, he was frequently absent from his duties, prompting several investigations and subsequent actions against him. It was later discovered that Patel had been absent from school to focus on marketing herbal products.
Delegated Duties To A Carpenter
Reports reveal that Patel hired a local carpenter to teach in his stead, paying him Rs 2,000-Rs 3,000 monthly. On December 27, he not only submitted his resignation in the BEO’s office but also distributed sweets and posted about it on social media. Investigations showed that he had been on a ‘no-work, no-pay’ status for the past two years due to his negligence.
Resignation Letter Goes Viral
In his resignation letter, Patel stated that he no longer wished to work with a “servant mindset". The District Education Officer (DEO), Jagdish Shastri, confirmed learning about the matter through social media as Patel had not formally informed the department.
The DEO further stated that an inquiry is underway to identify other employees engaged in unauthorised activities while in service, and strict action will be taken as per regulations.
