A UK man became an internet sensation when he posted a picture of a Mars bar that lacked its signature ripples. Harry Seager, a 34-year-old broadcaster from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, was on his way to a classic car show in Birmingham when he bought the chocolate bar at a service station in Thame, Oxfordshire. To his surprise, the Mars bar was completely smooth with no signature swirl on top.

Seager shared a photo of the unusual bar on the Dull Men’s Club Facebook page.

“Yesterday I had a completely smooth Mars Bar. I wonder if this is a cost-cutting measure in this chocolate bar from now on. 34, Male, UK. Don’t like bananas. This photo was taken on a 1972 ex-British Airtours Leyland Leopard I was a passenger on, going down the M40 motorway," he wrote alongside the photo.

His post sparked a variety of reactions, with some describing the smooth Mars bar as “pre-licked" or “unsettling."

One user, claiming to work in a chocolate factory, explained, “This is due to the blower being shut off when the product gets enrobed from underneath on a moving belt."

Another commenter questioned its authenticity, asking, “How on earth did it come in that tiny wrapper?"

Meanwhile, someone else suggested, “Send it back with a complaint…. They’ll likely send you a box!"

However, Seager said he wasn’t looking for compensation but was more interested in understanding the process behind the missing ripple.

“The only reason I emailed [Mars] was because I was interested in what might have caused it to happen. That is all I wanted to know, and they kept side-lining that question," he told BBC.

Mars Wrigley UK in response to his query sent him a £2 voucher which he shared on Facebook with a grin: “You all laughed at the Mars Bar fiasco. Well, look who’s laughing now! I’ve made £2." The voucher which is worth about Rs 214 meant Seager could enjoy two free Mars bars.

“I think £2 is great, it will be two free Mars bars. Maybe they could have sent me more, but I’m not being ungrateful. I think it’s amazing after everything that’s happened that I got the £2 voucher," he said.

A spokesperson from Mars Wrigley UK told BBC that the smooth bar had “slipped" through the production line. It assured that the classic swirl on top of the Mars bar had not been phased out.
